A Fresh Start, a New Challenge

Guess, who’s back, back again šŸ™‚

After not having posted anything for a long time, I’m back!

It’s been a busy 2 years for me where lots of things happened that took me away from producing new recipes and writing about my baking adventures. To not bore you with the details, in short, the last few years I was overworked and uninspired resulting in a burnout and no job. And an opportunity to reflect on what it is I truly enjoy in life. The end of last year I took a long break in Curacao (Dutch Caribbean) where I stayed with my aunt just relaxing and contemplating about what it is I enjoy. OneĀ of the things that immediately came to mind was Cakies. I enjoy baking, writing about baking and sharing all the things I come up with and learn. When I started Cakies there were barely any baking focused websites in the Netherlands and I knew that I could add value. Fast forward a few years and baking sites and tv shows are popping up everywhere now. Yet, I still think I can add value and offer something others can’t so I’m going to try and see if I can make Cakies into a business so I can do what I love every day. When I’m thinking about it logically it doesn’t make sense, earning money by blogging isn’t as easy as it was a few years ago. It’s hard work and I’ll be lucky to get enough in return to pay the cost of maintaining a website. But it’s something I HAVE to try and do. – No regrets – Ā Even if it’s just to say, I did it. And whether or not I’ll actually earn enough one day to solely focus on my blog or not doesn’t matter. As long as I can share my adventuresĀ and people enjoy reading it, I’ll be happy.

Yes, this means I’ll be putting ads on my website and work with affiliate links. But it doesn’t mean I’ll be writing to make money. I’ll be writing to share and do what I love. And the ads and links are just there to help me fund my site so I can keep on writing and sharing what I love. As long as people are interested in what I have to say and bake, I want to keep on sharing and baking.

The Blogging Challenge: No turning back
To give myself a challenge I decided to sign up for the 30 Day Blogging Challenge by Sarah and Kevin Arrow from Sark eMedia.Ā I bumped into them through a Blab. It basically means that for the next 30 days I’ll be publishing something on my blog. I figured this would be a good kickstart to breath new life into Cakies. And now that I’ve said it out load on my blog I’m stuck. *gasp*

The Baking Challenge: Baking my way around the world
I also want to challenge myself on a baking level. For as long as it takes to get through all the countries in the world I want to try and bake a recipe from each country. At least one recipe a week I’ll be posting will be a recipe inspired by a country’s local dish. I’ve created a separate page with all the countries in the world on which I will add a link to the recipe I make for this challenge. Some countries I have no idea on what kind of baking or dessert type recipes they have, so I will have to do some research. Anybody have a suggestion for Tuvalu? Any help you can give me will be appreciated, any tips for recipes to try. šŸ˜€
