Spekkoek Spice Mix (Lapis Spice)
Spekkoek spice mix is used in a Dutch-Indonesian layered called called Spekkoek, also known as kue lapis legit or spekuk. Spekkoek spice is fragrant mix of spices consisting of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and cardamom. Spekkoek spice is similar to pumpkin pie spice and speculaas spice.
How To Make Spekkoek Spice Mix (Lapis Spice)
It’s really easy to make your own spekkoek spice mix, just combine cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cardamom and mix them all together.
Once mixed you can store them in an airtight container and use the mix in cakes or cookies.

- 4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom

- Mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container.
Recipe Notes
- Spekkoek spice mix is similar to pumpkin pie spice and speculaas spice and can be used in cakes an cookies.
- Sometimes aniseed is added to spekkoek spice, if you like the aniseed flavor you can add 1 teaspoon of ground aniseed to the mix as well.

If I buy the spices to grind myself I toast them before. If I buy them grounded already I don’t toast the spices.
